Thank you to everyone who made this seminar such a huge success...to club members Angel, Betty, and Barb, for all their hard work putting this together!

The Winnipeg Area Shetland Sheepdog Association
is proud to welcome Pat Hastings back to Winnipeg for her ground-breaking
"STRUCTURE IN ACTION" seminar:

Sunday NOVEMBER 15, 2009

9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

Royal Canadian Legion
 6003 Roblin Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Continental Breakfast and Lunch

Dogs will do most anything we ask of them.

But do we want to ask them to do things that they are structurally incapable of doing without breaking down? Is that what we really want to do to our most steadfast companions? The more we learn about canine structure, the more we understand what is reasonable to ask of our dogs, given their physical strengths and weaknesses.

STRUCTURE IN ACTION is a new one-day workshop presented by Pat Hastings.  It combines Pat's Puppy Puzzle Presentation, as well as her discussion of the value of structurally evaluating adult dogs that are being considered for a breeding program, working trials or performance competition, along with a veterinarian’s perspective on how to reduce the risk of structural injuries in working and performance dogs.

Topics include:

  • How to evaluate the structural quality of puppies

  • The basics of canine structure

  • The weakest links

  • How to evaluate the structural quality of your adult dog

  • What your dog can do and should not be doing

  • A veterinarian's idea on how to strengthen structure and reduce the risk of injury

  • Your questions and answers

The seminar also includes a hands-on structural evaluation of dogs.

If you have a dog with a performance/structural issues that you would like considered for evaluation at the workshop, please include this information in your registration, below.

The selection of dogs will be based on those that have had injuries or other performance/structural issues (such as change in behaviour possibly related to an unknown structural issue).

Selection will be limited to 10 dogs.

Pat is well respected in dog-world as an educator, author and AKC judge. Well-known for her Puppy Puzzle video, she has articles published in a wide variety of dog magazines and evaluates the structural quality of over 300 litters’ per year..

She has been involved in the dog world since 1959 and began her career as an owner-handler, moving into breeding, then teaming up with her husband in professional handling. She is currently an AKC judge of the Herding, Non-Sporting Groups and Working Groups; Junior Showmanship; and Best in Show.

Pat's Videos / DVDs / Books will be available at the seminar!
