"Prairie"

This pretty sheltie is owned and much loved by club members Meagan and Christian.  Prairie's favorite past times include fetching a stick, ball, frisbee...and anything else that can be thrown.  She spends most of her days with Meagan at work playing with Molly (Lhasa/Poodle cross), her best friend, where she also gets to meet and play with other employee dogs.  She lives at home with 3 cats (Mimi, Omen and Crash), and has recently learned to jump on the bed, which gives the cats no reprieve!

Prairie enjoys her walks to the post office and loves to be around Meagan's nieces and nephews.  She has done some herding, and has started agility, and has received her Canadian Championship title this year at 18 months of age.  Her owners and breeders are so very proud!

May 2010

Meadow is a 2 year old bi-black Sheltie owned by club members Janet and Don.

Also known as Miss Meadow, she is a Spruce Hollow sheltie and well deserving of her registered name "Look Who's Talking".

Meadow spends her time in high gear. Her days consist of wrestling and howling matches with her big brother Shilo, a Siberian Husky and long walks along the tracks. But her true love is running, not after toys or balls, just running free as the wind.

After having 3 other shelties Janet and Don thought they knew all there was to know about shelties, but having Meadow made the realize this was not so.  Meadow has taught them and made them better dog parents.  Janet has a fridge magnet that reads-no home is complete without the pitter patter of doggy feet-and it is so true.

March/April 2010

"TANGO"

Tango, now 18 months old, is a sable merle owned by club member Joyce M.  With his beautiful blue eyes that everyone is surprised to see, his owner Joyce is proud to say he is a very obedient dog, and listens really good - unless he is too excited when his friends come over to play!

Joyce has taken Tango herding a couple of times and has introduced him to ducks.  But his first encounter with their flapping wings left him hiding behind her legs.  He soon starting feeling a little braver, and the next thing she knew, Tango started trailing behind the ducks, and a herding dog was born!

Tango is very lovable and enjoys putting his head on Joyce's knee when they watch T.V.  His best friend is his cat, who is now 16 years old, and though they get along quite well, Joyce can often be heard to say "leave that cat alone!"

He is a great companion to Joyce and she loves him dearly.

The best part - He knows it!

In memory of "Jasper"

OTCH DYNIQUES JASPER RAISIN TOAST, FM HIC

Jasper is the dog that changed the lives of club member Barb and her husband. Their family always had shelties and thought they knew what to expect when Jasper was placed in their arms as a puppy in September 2000.  They were wrong!  From the very first day, Jasper was an unbelievable bundle of energy, reacting to everything and wanting to do everything all at once.  After some months of trying to figure out what to do with this little fellow, Barb was fortunate to find some wonderful people to help.  Jasper was going to need lots of activities to challenge his mind and body.  They were off an running: training and competing in Obedience, Flyball, and Agility, and Jasper loved it all.  What a great dog he turned out to be!  Jasper earned his Utility title in 2008, with eleven High in Class and four High in Trial awards along the way. He competed in Flyball for several years and reached the Flyball Master Award.  He also competed in Agility.

Jasper loved all his activities: lessons in Obedience and Agility, Canine Good Citizen classes, walking in the park with his buddies and playing outside with McKai.  After his diagnosis in July, Barb and her family feel very fortunate to have been able to have this wonderful summer and fall with him. He was lively and happy and they were able to go many places and do all the things he loved to do.  Barb feels he left in peace, content that he had always done his very best and knowing that he was well loved.

When Barb and her family look back over the last nine years, they realize how their lives changed when Jasper joined their family.  Barb has met so many wonderful friends, and has done all kinds of things she never would have dreamed of doing if not for Jasper.  Jasper taught her so much about dogs and about herself along the way.

"Levi"

Levi is a 7 year young blue merle sheltie whose owner, WASSA member Terry, says can't believe how time flies by.   Levi loves to "do", just about anything except take a bath.   Even swimming is ok as long as there is something to retrieve. Obedience is fine as long as he is with his Mom and there are lots of treats and play.  But agility is his true love, which Terry says is easy to see if you have ever watched him run.   Levi never gets distracted from his job, his world is agility.  Because of his love for the sport and his speed, Terry has had to learn how to be a much improved handler.  She owes so much of her knowledge to this incredible dog who is always one step ahead of her.

At home Levi has lots of jobs, mostly created by him.   He is the watchdog over the vacuum, hair blowers, iron and iron board, dishwasher and the list goes on.  As Terry says, thank goodness he is well trained or our world would be chaos!   He is a couch potato a lot of the time when Terry is doing "other" stuff but give him any signal that we are going to train or walk or swim or heaven forbid, pick up a ball or Frisbee and he is there, ready!

Levi has earned many titles in conformation, obedience, agility and rally.   Terry's hope is that they continue and earn some more titles before they are done.  Levi was bred by Terry's daughter, and she would like to thank Michelle for producing this fantastic dog and for letting her pick him.

DECEMBER 2009

Tigger"

Tigger is a 7 year old trouble maker owned and loved by WASSA club member Sandra.

One of the amazing things he does is bounce off Sandra's hip when it's food time, hence his name came to be Tigger cause he has springs in his legs!  As Sandra describes him, he is a one of a kind Sheltie who loves to give kisses and be on your lap as close to her as he can.  She loves him dearly, and wouldn't trade him for all the money in the world!

NOVEMBER 2009

"April"

In memory of "April." April was club member Paula's first sheltie and introduced her to the world of showing, obedience and flyball. She went everywhere with Paula, and did everything with her.  She was the babysitter and matriarch of her sheltie clan.
Her end of the bed dog, April lived to a ripe old age of 17 years, and wagged her tail to everyone she met.  She was Paula's April !

and is always entertaining herself with her pile of toys.

She also always takes time to smell the flowers!

AUGUST 2009

"Gibson"

Someone once told me: "I look at him from across the room and he fills me up."

Club Member Lesley could not agree more when it comes to Gibson.  He is her "heart dog," that "once in a lifetime dog" that occupies a place in her heart that no other can.

Gibson has always done whatever Lesley has asked of him, and it never ceases to amaze her.

One look at his face and she melts.

JULY 2009

"Freska"

"Freska" is club member Kim's bundle of energy!  She brought her home from her moms at the age of 12 weeks and now, at 14 months old, has her HIC and just loves to herd. She is also enjoying agility and is currently training in obedience.

She loves car rides especially sticking her head out the window enjoying the wind,  long walks, going to work with Kim, and  playing ball.  She also loves chasing the water from the hose!

Freska is the true meaning of the saying a man's best friend and also has the true sheltie characteristics.

Rosie is an absolute "Gem" and loves to be with Kerry and Brett.  One of her favourite things in life are going for truck rides, walks in the field with mom and dad, enjoying a piece of pizza now and then, and French Fries.  She loves to lay in the sun on warm sunny days or help her mom with the gardening.

Rosie holds a very special place in Kerry and Brett's hearts, and they enjoy every minute of their time with her.

"Piper"

Piper is a blue merle sheltie owned and loved by club members Janet and John.

He is the "ultimate canine cool Dude".  His favourite pastimes are having fun playing Frisbee catch-me-if-you-can, pestering Monty, barking at the neighbours and going for car rides.  In fact he thinks he should go for every car ride all of the time!   He has also assumed the official duty of "front door greeter"... no one gets by without his approval.  Piper is a joy to live with and never fails to make us smile.

She is such a great little girl, her new family is happy to report, and she is adapting well to her new home.  She is learning lots, exploring, playing and having loads of fun!  In typical Sheltie fashion, Sophie has stolen the hearts of all who know her.
